Oakland-based Catalyst Connection was awarded $950,000 from the federal government to help create a consortium with other local organizations to encourage technology commercialization.

The grant, awarded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is one of 22 awarded under a program aimed at boosting American manufacturers' global competitiveness.

To achieve this goal, Catalyst Connection proposed establishing a Regional Innovation Cluster to move technology out of university or government labs and into use by small- and medium-sized manufacturers. Included in this consortium are: the University of Pittsburgh, The National Energy Transfer Laboratory, Innovation Works, the Pennsylvania NanoMaterials Commercialization Center and Carnegie Mellon University.

“This funding will enable us to better link our region’s innovative manufacturers with the technology resources available to them, and fast track new technology into product commercialization and viable manufacturing jobs for this region,” said Petra Mitchell, president and CEO of Catalyst Connection, in a written statement.

Catalyst Connection is an economic development organization that works with small- and medium-sized manufacturers to enhance their business and ensure a healthy manufacturing industry.
